The Arizona Hispanic Center of Excellence (AZ-HCOE) seeks to promote the health of the community by meeting the needs of the state’s growing Hispanic population. Limited-English proficiency and low health literacy are common barriers associated with poorer health status among the Latino population. In an effort to bridge the gap between health information currently available and the skills people have to understand and use this information in making a health-related decision, participating in research, and/or supporting health promotion programs, AZ-HCOE looks for opportunities to collaborate with organizations and initiatives seeking to overcome language and cultural barriers to health information for the Latino communities.
