FAQs

I will like to improve my Spanish conversation skills but am not ready to commit to the BMS distinction track, what are my options?

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion offers a Medical Spanish Enrichment Elective course for first-year medical students in the Spring semester. In addition to attending the semester-long course (1 hr per week), students have access to Canopy Medical Spanish (self-paced, e-learning platform), and are invited to attend informal Spanish conversation sessions (Spanish for All) offered in collaboration with LMSA.  Students interested in an immersion experience can attend the month-long Global MedCats – Costa Rica program. Global MedCats offers a combination of Spanish language training and clinical shadowing rotations in a friendly and relaxed environment. Other options are available. For additional details, contact the BMS Program Coordinator.

How can I get access to Canopy Medical Spanish?

The University  of Arizona Health Sciences - Hispanic Center of Excellence offers medical and other health professions students with free access to Canopy Medical Spanish: a self-paced, e-learning platform to enhance your medical Spanish communication skills. Contact the BMS Program Coordinator for additional information.
