The Medical Spanish Program for Emergency Medicine Residents at Banner University Medical Center - South Campus (BUMC-SC) offers medical Spanish instruction to both beginner and intermediate/advanced level residents. In addition to classroom-based instruction, residents benefit from ongoing access to Canopy Learn –an online, multimedia, commercial medical Spanish course—and clinical practice sessions with Spanish-speaking medical and premed students. Residents with an advanced Spanish proficiency level attend a 40-hour medical interpretation training conducted by faculty from the University of Arizona's Spanish and Portuguese Department to function as dual-role medical interpreters in the busy emergency medicine department.
